This is part of a series on Lafayette’s visit to New England – June 13 to June 29 1825.

The committee of arrangements met the General at Edward’s Inn five miles on the road to Pittsfield.  Chairman Judge Howe addressed him.

The general entered the village attended by the sheriff, committee, a detachment of cavalry and a considerable number of private gentlemen under the direction of Colonel Shepherd, chief Marshal. There was light infantry, artillery and volunteer companies.  Lafayette visited the Round Hill School under the charge of Mister Cogswell and Mister Bancroft. He met the selectmen at Warner’s hotel.  He proceeded in open carriage through the streets where pupils of the schools and a large number of citizens were collected. At the meeting house he met a large number of ladies.  He proceeded to the hotel where he was introduced to the clergy and others and had dinner.

He set off at 2:00 PM.
