Background
Last month I posted about a lawsuit filed by autodidact “legal expert” Paul John Hansen with Leon Wayne Redder, Kent Hovind and Hansen himself as plaintiffs. Here is a link to the complaint. There are numerous defendants, but we are going to just talk about Mark Defee.
According to the complaint, Mark Defee was entrusted by Redder with $8,400 to buy vehicles. In that capacity, according to the complaint, Defee took a jeep owned by Hansen and stored at Dinosaur Adventure Land for a test drive needlessly leaving the 145 acre property. He was stopped and arrested and the jeep was taken to a storage facility and the cash was seized. Other defendants are the police officer who made the stop, the City of Creola and its police department and the towing storage companies and people connected to them. The State of Alabama is also a defendant. Not to mention the State of Colorado. I mean if you are going to sue a bunch of people and entities, why not include the State of Colorado?
Anyway Hovindologist, Robert Baty, gave me a guest post critiquing the evidence that Hansen actually owned the jeep. You can check that out and form your own conclusion.
A New Source
I also heard from Heather Defee who is Mark Defee’s wife. She has a very different account of the events. She and Mark have been living at Dinosaur Adventure Land for a good part of 2025. They have been together as a couple for seven years. It has been rocky at times, but they are hanging on. They married this year as that was a requirement for them to live together as a couple at DAL. Kent Hovind performed the ceremony so they are likely not legally married. Heather is 50 and Mark is 62.
Heather and Mark visited DAL at the urging of a friend. Mark hit it off great with Kent. Kent apparently had a lot for a good mechanic to do. Heather owned a fifth-wheel RV (i.e. one that is towed) that was stranded on somebody else’s property. Kent helped them straighten that out and relocate the RV to DAL where Heather lived with and sometimes without Mark, who sometimes preferred the DAL “man cave”.
Heather was offended by Hovind’s attitude toward women. She also perceived DAL as being a cult-like environment. This was a strain of their relationship as Mark apparently got on quite well with Hovind. She also was chided for not doing enough work, which was due to a health problem she had. Ultimately they left DAL. Heather traded her fifth-wheel RV with Hovind for a bumper-pull RV and some cash to buy a vehicle that could toe it.
Heather’s Story
According to Heather, Mark was buying the jeep from Hovind. He had already arranged insurance on it. He and Heather took it on a drive to visit her mother who lives in Creola. She is not sure why they were stopped, although not having tags was a possibility. The car was searched and $2,500 in cash was seized. The cash was from Mark’s previous night’s casino winnings. There was also meth in the car. I have to say that given that the lead plaintiff Leon Redder lives at DAL it is hard to see why he would have needed to use Mark as some sort of buying agent. Mark was arrested.
Mark made a deal with the DA to serve sixty days and two years probation and agree to not attempt to recover the $2,500. The reason the jeep is still tied up is that nobody seems to be able to prove that they own it. Heather thinks there is something fishy about the jeep, but residence at DAL can probably lead to a tendency to see conspiracies.
It was great talking to Heather. She told me that she was born in Buffalo NY, but her parents moved her to Alabama when she was four. Clearly she learned to speak in Alabama. I would characterize her as feisty.
There Is More
Heather left a very long comment on Bob Baty’s guest post. You can read it there in its original form. Below is a version which I have edited.
And according to Alabama state law the owners and secretary at K2 Towing where the jeep has been residing since my husband got pulled over in it have not withheld the vehicle from him due to just the lack of a legal title. They will not relinquish the vehicle without the title or the tow fee, the money that they are rightfully owed for the vehicle. Paul’s other argument with Mark is that he (Mark) , is legally obligated to pay the tow fee in order for Paul to get the Jeep back. But from day one when Mark showed interest in that vehicle no one else showed interest in it at all not a dinosaur adventure Land not anyone around Paul nor Paul himself or can’t holding himself.
Because it was of no use to anyone as Kent Hovind had intended on using it on his tours at Dinosaur Adventure Land. But Mark advised him against that because a Jeep Laredo is way different than a Jeep Wrangler. It’s not even a four-wheel-drive vehicle so the Jeep was swept under the rug so to speak. Mark was in the process of buying the Jeep when he got pulled over in it. No one ever told him that he did not have permission to drive it off of Dinosaur Adventure Land property. Prior to him getting pulled over in the vehicle, he came and met me at least three times to bring me money and in order to get out of Dinosaur Adventureland, you had to pass right in front of Kent Hovind’s house. So there’s no way you can tell me that Hovind didn’t know Mark was driving that vehicle off the property.
I myself called K2 Towing and spoke to Kenisha, the owner. She informed me that there’s not been any paperwork served to her . It also states that Officer Pitts has been served at Creola police department. So I took it upon myself to go there because I like doing things face to face. You can read somebody’s body language. But anyhow, I went there to talk to Officer Pitts, but he was not on duty. But someone at the police department that accepts those type of documents and can accept service on someone else says there’s not been anyone served at that Police department.
And Paul Hansen thinks that he can misconstrue the law or revamp it or whatever because he doesn’t like the way that it’s written or it states in the law books things that he has to follow and every other red-blooded American has to follow. He’s crazy there is no wrong doing on anyone’s part except for Paul Hansen for filing false documents or, let me say this better, supposedly filing false documents against anybody that’s listed as a defendant on that paperwork. There was no knowledge of any money by anyone except for the police officer and Mark and that was Mark’s money that he won at Wind Creek Casino. I was with him when he won the money it had nothing to do with anybody else but Mark defeat that was his money.
But it’s part of his probation money which was only $2,500 it wasn’t $8,400. I have no reason to lie. Mark has already been to jail and gotten out and has taken probation and he’s doing very well these days without the troubles from those two clowns in Lenox Alabama.
And where in the hell is Paul Hansen’s at? He wants to talk about punitive damages and mental anguish and pain and everything that he supposedly lost when he didn’t even have interest in the Jeep and it did not run until Mark fixed it and made it run. That’s why I left Dinosaur Adventureland.
No one had any interest in the Jeep except for Mark until he got pulled over in it and they see it as an opportunity to make some money off of somebody that has nothing.
I don’t believe DAL is specifically a cult but it runs on the same principles! Kent Hovind’ s day of reckoning is coming! He’s gonna be sorry! Cause he’s using “The Church” as a cover up for all of his shenanigans!
I hope my edits made it a little easier to read, but feel free to check out the original, which includes a little feistiness I deleted. There is a disparaging term for people suffering from melanin deficiency that I disapprove of. Regardless, if you want more of Heather’s feistiness check out some of the comments on Bob Bay’s Facebook page.
Note
Heather subsequently edited her post herself and requested that the original be removed.

Yes, feisty I am! A pushover I’m not! There are a few things that need correcting in this article but not important enough to do at this time. Mark is sick & you know how men are when they are sick lol! If I feel that the edits are necessary in the future I will dm the author.
All of this kind of stuff is new to me so I’m unaware of the lingo or legal stance of any of the allegations being made. But from my point of view, in laman’s terms, it’s a bunch of garbage. Like Hansen gathered up a bunch of misfit information from a bunch of unreliable sources & threw it all in a pile then put it on paper. It makes no sense to me why he would go to such lengths to try & get blood from a turnip!
Just because he (Mark) made a terrible judgement in trusting Hovind, doesn’t mean he should be caught up in their mess! I wish all of this would just go away! Because it’s not helping Mark any at all ( the bogus lawsuit) & he’s doing great! He’s on the right path & doesn’t need anymore influence from these clowns! And besides all of that, how does Hansen know what’s factual or not when he hasn’t witnessed anything. His source (Hovind d) is a compulsive liar & a thief! Hansen is & has been states away & not present for anything that did or did not happen! He needs a God reality check!
