Tea Party Patriots — Federalist Papers — Really ?

A nation cannot long exist without revenues. Destitute of this essential support, it must resign its independence, and sink into the degraded condition of a province. This is an extremity to which no government will of choice accede. Revenue, therefore, must be had at all events.

Tea Party Patriots, Inc.–Movement Or Money Machine?

Hi.  This is Brenda calling with an action alert from the Tea Party Patriots.   Well Larry, I know you are busy so I will get right to the point.  This election is our last chance to stop Obamacare and stop our country from becoming a cradle-to-grave welfare state.  Right now we are just $50,000 short of the amount we need to finish our door-to-door voter outreach and carry out our plan to stop left-wing voter fraud.

Tax Court Dusts Off Crane Decision

Tax Court Dusts Off Crane Decision

t hinted that maybe, just maybe, there was a way out of a burned out tax shelter besides dying or giving it to your spouse and getting a divorce.  Those hopes were dashed by the Tufts decision in 1983.  So poor Ms. Malonzo was at least three decades late with her argument.  Still I’m glad she took the case up, reading about the Crane decision makes me feel young again.

Tea Party Patriots Audit IRS Rally At Capitol June 19

Besides getting people stoked to attend the rally, the other goal of the call was to raise $27,000. We were told that if we pressed 7 efficient, but friendly, operators would quickly take our donations and we would be back on the call without missing anything.  At the beginning of the call I heard mention of a few folks like Joe from Idaho who gave $105.  Halfway through the call, they told us that there were 7,000 people on the call who had not yet pressed 7.

Need Strong Documentation Of Time Spent To Claim Real Estate Losses

Apparently, it is TIGTA that is to blame.  TIGTA is the Treasury Inspector General For Tax Administration.  They are the folks that gave us the reports about the line dancing Anaheim conference and the Cincinnati gang that couldn’t sort straight picking on the Tea Party.  In 2010 TIGTA issued a report to the effect that the IRS was not paying enough attention to real estate losses.

AICPA Wastes More On Conferences Than IRS

AICPA Wastes More On Conferences Than IRS

Somebody smarter than me seems to think things like that are a good idea and if they are a good idea for CPA firms, then they are probably a good idea for the IRS.  None of the extra frills that people are so outraged about with the IRS are at all unusual at tax conferences.  If you are thinking about a career as a tax professional, though, I have to tell you that there is really no truth to the stories about the tax groupies flocking to the places where tax superstars gather in conclave.

Citizens Should Stop Trashing The IRS

Citizens Should Stop Trashing The IRS

If we choose to take out our frustration with tax complexity on the people tasked with enforcement, we will be in for another decade like the nineties, during which. for those who could afford it, taxes really were voluntary.

Whole Life Insurance Tax Disasters

Whole Life Insurance Tax Disasters

People say life insurance is complicated and  it’s lack of transparency hampers its popularity.  Whole Life, like the polices in your articles ,  are the mother-ship of complexity , secrecy, and confusion.   Many agents use “simplification” and “demystification” of financial services as their taglines, which is a good thing. But oversimplifying is an abuse of customer trust. Putting whole life in the basket of at-work  benefits is an opportunity for inappropriate oversimplification. The responsibility to protect employees from those types of programs lies with the employer.

Dental Management Company Did Not Do Any Managing

Dental Management Company Did Not Do Any Managing

A lot of people believe that you can freely shift income between related entities as long as it ties out and you have not violated the “big balance sheet in the sky”.  In reality, that kind of activity runs the risk of having you be whipsawed, because income is income, but deductions must be ordinary and necessary.

IRS Does Not Spend Enough On Conferences

IRS Does Not Spend Enough On Conferences

There is an ideology that holds that we would be better off with a much smaller federal government which would not need nearly as much tax revenue.  I have a lot of respect for that ideology and I think it deserves a fair hearing.  I think, though, that it is underhanded to devote energy to defeating taxation by gutting enforcement and demoralizing the enforcers.  And that is what I see going on.
