This table gives you a today’s dollar multiplier rounded to the nearest dollar from the Inflation calculator
You will note that the year range varies significantly as has the rate of inflation. I would further boil this down to a very rough 2 for the nineties, 3 for the eighties, 6 for the seventies, 8 for the sixties and 10 for the fifties.
2 – 1.51 to 2.48 – 1985 – 2001
3 – 2.57 to 3.24 – 1980 – 1984
4 – 3.68 to 4.41 – 1977 – 1979
5 – 4.69 to 5.42 – 1974 – 1976
6 – 6.01 – 6.39 – 1972 – 1973
7 – 6.59 – 7.28 1969- 1971
8 – 7.67 – 8.48 1965 – 1970
9 – 8.61 – 9.50 1957 – 1964
10 – 9.82 – 10.27 1951- 1956
The link uses BLS which is a great site if you want to get lost in fun data. We always get told general inflation numbers but the details of looking by industry is much more fascinating. Playing with this website there is some additional detail though which is great where adjusted for inflation bacon is cheaper now than it was in the 80’s.
